DIGM12-202: Architectural Visualisation and Animation

Description

Architectural Visualisation and Animation introduces students to real-time visualisation workflows through the creation of digital twins. Drawing on their existing 3D modelling skills, students observe and digitally reconstruct indoor spaces, then apply materials, lighting, UV mapping, environmental animation, and cinematic camera techniques to enhance spatial expression. The subject emphasises the translation of design skills into real-time rendering workflows and supports visual presentation practices across visualisation, virtual production, and screen-based media.

Subject details

Type: Undergraduate Subject
Code: DIGM12-202
Faculty: Faculty of Society and Design
Credit: 5
Study areas:
  • Architecture
  • Communication, Film, and Creative Media

Learning outcomes

  1. Analyse a real-world indoor location and reconstruct its spatial qualities as a digital twin using 3D modelling techniques.
  2. Apply lighting, materials, and environmental elements to support spatial realism, mood, and storytelling within a real-time visualisation workflow.
  3. Design and execute a cinematic camera sequence to communicate spatial intent and user experience
  4. Demonstrate technical proficiency in UV mapping, real-time rendering preparation, and optimisation for animated scene delivery.

Enrolment requirements

Requisites:

Nil

Assumed knowledge:

Assumed knowledge is the minimum level of knowledge of a subject area that students are assumed to have acquired through previous study. It is the responsibility of students to ensure they meet the assumed knowledge expectations of the subject. Students who do not possess this prior knowledge are strongly recommended against enrolling and do so at their own risk. No concessions will be made for students’ lack of prior knowledge.

Students are expected to have foundational skills in 3D modelling, including an understanding of spatial layout, scale, and basic modelling workflows.

Restrictions: This subject is not available to
  • Study Abroad Students

This subject is not available as a general elective. To be eligible for enrolment, the subject must be specified in the students’ program structure.
