ARCH71-XX5: Architectural Tectonic and Detailing

Description

This subject extends knowledge in building technology towards architectural tectonics and detailing. Students will develop material understanding and learn how to choose materials, components and systems appropriate to design, including their impact on design quality and the whole carbon impact on the project. Students will learn to integrate material with appropriate structure and construction systems. This is developed through technical drawings, schedules, specifications and physical models to synthesise conceptual design thinking with architectural details.

Subject details

Code: ARCH71-XX5
Study areas:
  • Architecture

Learning outcomes

  1. Design iteration of outcomes based on conceptual, material, and structural evaluation and analysis.
  2. Demonstrate the integration of material selection, structural and construction systems and their impacts on design outcomes.
  3. Examine and evaluate the processes for selecting materials, finishes, fittings, components and systems based on consideration of quality and performance standards, the impact on the Country and the environment, and the whole-life carbon impact of the project.
  4. Evaluate, coordinate and integrate sustainable environmental systems โ€“ including water, thermal, lighting and acoustics into design.
  5. Describe, design and communicate accurate documentation information with accurate terminology to detailed design drawings, models, specifications, schedules and construction documentation.
