Amber Reinbott’s mother will have to adjust to her daughter claiming family bragging rights after the Bond Actuarial Science student, broke three Australian records at last week’s International Field Archery Association (IFAA) National Championships.
It comes after Reinbott has returned to archery following a four-year hiatus due to injury and study commitments.
Archery is a family affair for the Reinbotts with Amber’s mum also competing at the IFAA.
“I think she’s slowly getting used to the fact that I’m beating her,” Reinbott said. “it’s not really a surprise anymore.”
Reinbott, who competes in the Young Adult Freestyle Female Unlimited category, broke national records that had stood for eight years. She broke the field record by 25 points, the hunter record by 49 points, and the animal record by four points.
“I knew that there wouldn’t be many competitors in my category, so my eyes were set on breaking those national records,” Reinbott said.
“I also beat the world records, but they won’t count as I didn’t compete at an international level. The Australian record will now be higher than the world record.”
Reinbott placed first overall in the female category and 7th overall for both men and women.
“It was exciting getting that perfect score on the final day,” Reinbott said. “I think I surprised myself.”
“I even beat the top two men on the final day, and I was the only competitor to shoot a perfect round - a 560/560.”
Reinbott was thrilled to be competing again.
“It was so great to be out there. The pressure was high, but it was a feeling I had missed.”
Reinbott will now look forward to the 3D Archery Association of Australia (3DAAA) National Competition in November.
