Key forward in doubt for top two QFA clash.

Jack Tilley kicks 7
Key forward Jack Tilley is in doubt for the clash with Coolangatta.

The Bull Sharks will be hoping to cement their position in the top two when they travel to Coolangatta to take on the Blues on Saturday.

QFA

Bull Sharks v Coolangatta at Coolangatta.

Last time they met:

Rd 16, 2023 at The Canal.

Bull Sharks won 11.11 (77) to 7.10 (52)

Best: Liam Viney, Wyatt Bacon, Matthew Smith, Nathan Rataj, Grant Trew, Jaiden Pengelly.

The opposition:

They are equal 2nd on the ladder with us and are a hard proposition at their home ground which they play very well. They have recruited very well and possess a strong midfield group ably supported by a very experienced defensive six.

Where it will be won:

The stoppage battle is crucial because the team that owns ground position and has better quality inside 50m entries will win.

One to watch:

Sam Bowen on a wing has played 1 game back on his return from an enforced break due to a 21-day concussion protocol. Sam has worked hard on his body strength and has become an excellent inside outside midfielder who has a raking left foot.

The Focus:

Our goal kicking accuracy was off last week where we kicked 12:17. The boys have spent some time this week at training honing their goal kicking skills.

Shuffling the magnets:

Full Forward Jack Tilley remains in doubt with a foot injury as is defender Ryan Deinjes who has a neck complaint. Also on the injury list is utility Riewoldt family AFL Excellence Scholarship player Nick Francis who is recovering well from a calf strain. Of those in line for a call up small forward Hayden Carthew-Zimmer and defenders Grant Trew and Nick Scott are the most likely to press for inclusion

The final word:

This game poses a number of challenges to our group as Coolangatta have enjoyed strong form to date. We are confident that if we bring our customary contested ball effort and we use the ball well going forward we can get a strong result which can set us up during what shapes as a challenging mid-season period.

The road ahead:

We have games against the ladder leaders and last season’s premiers Burleigh as well as finalists Carrara coming up after Coolangatta, so we really want to enter that period in top form.

QAFLW have the bye.
