Hitting the greens and scoring goals

Golfers have chipped in to raise more than $30,000 for the Bond University Rugby World Cup Tour.

The ambrose tournament organised by the club at RACV Royal Pines Resort was such a success it is set to become an annual event.

The money raised will help offset the costs of sending male and female players on the three-match tour in September.

The first leg of the tour will take place at Loughborough University in England, where they will compete against the highly-ranked Loughborough women's team.

The teams will proceed to France where they will play against the Paris University Rugby Club.

Finally, they will make their way to Leon in south France where they will watch the highly anticipated Rugby World Cup game between the Wallabies and Wales.

The Bond University teams will also compete against the local Leon club.

Director of Sport Mike Collins praised the efforts of Director of Rugby Luca Liussi and the rugby club in organising the overseas tour within a short timeframe.

“They only came up with the whole concept at the beginning of this year, so they’ve done a really great job to organise it all,” Collins said.

“It will certainly be a unique and memorable experience for our athletes.”

Whilst the tour promises to foster camaraderie amongst the Bond Rugby Club, it will also create an excellent development opportunity for the individual players.

“They play a very different style of rugby in places like the UK and France, so gaining exposure to this will be invaluable to their personal growth,” Collins said.

“Additionally, to play alongside the Rugby World Cup is going to be a once-in-a-lifetime experience for some of the attendees.”

The tour is not limited to Bond’s premier sides. Players from the colts, second and third grades are all encouraged to join the tour.
