Heartbreak for Colts 1 against premiership favourites

It was a tough day for the Bull Sharks in their final home game of the season at The Canal on Saturday.

Colts 1 suffered a heartbreaking two-point loss to Souths while the Premier Men were soundly beaten.

Bull Sharks lost 45-43.

Where it was lost:

We lost momentum in the middle of the second half in the contact areas participating around ruck support and clean out. That allowed Souths entry into our defensive zone, and they were good at converting through their forward play. 

The highlight:

We scored some great tries against the top team and fought back well at the end to secure two bonus points. 

What made you happy: 

Our teamwork in the first half was great. We just weren’t able to replicate that in the second half. 

The work to do:

To be a finals quality side we need to improve in the contact areas and break down support and with our one-on-one tackles.  

Bull Sharks Footy:

An epic try from Hunter Robinson displayed what Bull Sharks footy is all about. He gained possession off a cross field kick off the boot of Cal Simpson, after some good forward play from the pack. That try really demonstrated our teamwork first mentality. 

Trademark player:

Nikotimo Mateiwai’s strong presence up the front pushed the defensive efforts of our opponents hard and resulted in a great try from him.

Premier Men 

Bull Sharks lost 57-21.

Where it was lost: 

Lost through insipid defence, The players didn’t have the right attitude, something we will work on next time. 

The highlight: 

The main highlight of the game was seeing our first maul try of the season. It was a great team effort and score from the hands of Jack Winchester. These types of tries are always awesome to see. 

What made you happy: 

Our scrum is always a happy sight. It is one of our biggest strengths this season, and the game on the weekend was no different. Our scrum performed well under the immense pressure from our opponents, a real shining point in a less than ideal game. 

The work to do:

Heading into the last game of the season, the boys will have to work on their attitude and commitment towards defence. It has been one of our weaker areas the last few games and is something that will have to be adapted beyond this season. 

Bull Sharks Footy: 

Our style of play was not our usual Bull Shark way, we let to many opportunities slip through our fingers, and didn’t have the right mindset toward the challenge we were faced with. 

Trademark Player: 

Rhys Sheriff has been on fire the last few games. He is an immovable force, having him come on later in the game provided the boys with some much need impact.
