Bull Sharks host Clash of the Coast

An enormous double-header awaits Bull Sharks netballers.

Bond tackles the Tigers on Saturday before hosting the Gold Coast Titans in the ‘Clash of the Coast’ on Sunday at Carrara Indoor Sports Stadium.

What’s in store

Bond Sapphire Coach Bec Stower wasn’t backward in coming forward ahead of last week’s game. The statistics were telling a story, and Stower was forced to spell out few uncomfortable truths about the costliness of turning over possession. 

To her team’s great credit, they listened and acted. 

Although impressed by their ability to respond, Stower says the most important takeaway was the value of sticking to well-drilled plans. 

“We are looking to keep building across the court through linking our units,” she said. 

“Last week's win has given us a huge confidence boost and has given the team what they need to continue trusting our training and preparation processes as we take on Tigers in a crucial must-win match on Saturday.

“We will then look forward to our first and only home game and a great crowd on Sunday as we look to learn from our last outing against the Titans.”

Ruby coach Kim Boland is confident her charges can overcome a disappointing fourth quarter fade-out this weekend. 

“We have trained really well this week,” she said. “We’ve addressed our errors from a disappointing loss to the Cougars and we’re ready to sink our teeth into the double-header this weekend.

When they last met

Sapphire

It was a heart-stopping loss for the Sapphire team against the Tigers last time around. Despite finishing like a freight train, Bond’s Sapphire team fell a goal short and desperately wished the game could have continued for another minute. 

The Gold Coast Titans were just a little too experienced for a nervous Bull Sharks outfit in their first meeting this year.

But back then the Titans’ 11-goal win was inspired by a first half goal-shooting masterclass from NZ and Tongan superstar Cat Tuivinati. Her short stint at the Titans has now come to an end. Bond has improved significantly since then. It will be fascinating to see how the two teams match up second time around.

The Tigers’ impressive Ruby side have been a handful for all-comers this season – and Bond are no exception. They piled on the points early against a slow-starting Bull Sharks outfit back in round 7, and Bond struggled to put a dent in the margin for the rest of the game. But with the Bull Sharks desperate to stay in touch with the top four, the return bout presents a significant opportunity. 

Back in round 2, the Bull Sharks trumped the Titans by five goals with a final-quarter blitz after a bruising neck-and-neck battle. The Titans will be itching to square the ledger at the return fixture. This game promises to be an absolute cracker.
