Bond Bullsharks named 2015 AUS Per Capita Champion for third consecutive year

2015 has been an incredible year of achievements for Bond Bullsharks across a broad range of sports and what better way to top it off than by being named Australian University Sport (AUS) Overall Per Capita Champion.

This is the third year in the row that Bond has earned the coveted per capita trophy which is awarded to the university who has excelled in all Australian University Sport sanctioned events, taking into consideration its size i.e. number of students.

The award combines points accumulated for each place and pennant earned at all the AUS Championships throughout the year, including distance running, triathlon, surfing, snow sports, rowing and orienteering and all the sports at the Australian University Games (AUG).

Bond Sport and Programs Manager, Jennifer Younger congratulated the Bond Bullsharks on yet another outstanding year of sporting achievements. 

“This is a fantastic result for Bond, especially when you consider we didn’t have any athletes participating in the snow sports or orienteering championships,” she said.

“In addition to a stellar performance by our very large contingent of competitors at this year’s AUG, a number of BESP athletes represented Bond in their championship events and won, including distance runner and triathlete Courtney Gilfillan and surfer Codie Klein.

“Thank you to all our BESP members, individual athletes and teams who took the time to represent Bond in their chosen sport or who participated in the Australian University Games. We faced some stiff competition to retain our per capita crown in 2015, but together we did it!”

Finishing behind Bond in the Top Five for the per capita championship were (in descending order) University of Southern Queensland, ACPE, Griffith University and Avondale.

“We may be small in size, but for the third year in a row we remain Australia’s best performing sports university - a fact we can all be proud of.”
