It will be a huge day at The Canal as they take on the reigning premiers Burleigh on a special celebration of our past premiership sides.

The QAFLW side will enjoy the pre-finals bye.

Last time they met:

Rd 8, 2024 at The Canal.

Bull Sharks lost 15.10 (100) to 6.10 (46)

Best: Hunter Booth, Will King, Matthew Green, Archie Prime, Oliver Burrows-Cheng, Mitchell Dell

On reflection:

We met Burleigh at the Canal back in early June and were soundly beaten by a very organised, talented footy team. On this occasion they beat us by 54 points in a game we never really looked like winning.

The opposition:

Burleigh are the clear flag favourites this year and will be looking to go back-to-back. They have a very strong well-connected side with most of the players having played together for some time now. To win we must be at our absolute best.

Shuffling the magnets:

This week will be a very challenging week as far as selection. Given we play under the rule of maximum point allocation of 45 points per game, our challenge will be fitting everyone in. Ollie Burrows-Cheng, Kain Ford and Nathan Rataj are all highly talented players who will come into the selection frame this week which will help us challenge the competition’s best.

One to watch:

Felix Packer again this week will be a huge presence up forward and has been in rare form this season, the return of Nathan Rataj our most talented mid-fielder will also be one wo watch.

The focus:

Compete and match them all day. We must put pressure on the opposition who love to run and work the ball around. Our challenge is to disrupt them by our pressure and ball use back the other way. The coaching this week has focused on ensuring we bring the heat all day and slow their play down from their defence where they set up most of their attacks from.

The final word:

It will be a terrific day of celebration for the club with Premiership Reunions for the men’s and women’s teams. To beat the best team in the competition on our home deck would be a fitting tribute to our past players.

Reserves.

Bull Sharks won 11.6 (72) to 5.9 (39)

Best: Ethan Shovelton, Dean Hepburn, Curtis Glover, Nathan White, Kane Peeters
