Professional biography
Dr Tim Aung is an experienced General Practitioner, academic, and researcher based in Brisbane and Logan, Australia. Originally from Myanmar, he has developed an international medical career spanning Southeast Asia, the South Pacific, New Zealand, and Australia. Early in his career, he contributed to healthcare delivery in Cambodia and Pacific Island nations through the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP/UNV), gaining broad clinical experience across diverse healthcare systems.
Dr Aung holds Fellowship of the Royal Australian College of General Practitioners (FRACGP) and Fellowship of the Royal New Zealand College of General Practitioners (FRNZCGP). His training and clinical experience encompass general medicine, emergency medicine, paediatrics, mental health, and minor surgical procedures. Since 2011, he has practised as a GP in Queensland, providing comprehensive, patient-centred care to culturally diverse populations, including refugees and migrant communities.
His clinical interests include chronic disease management (particularly diabetes and cardiovascular disease), men’s and women’s health, sexual health and contraception (including Implanon and Mirena insertion), musculoskeletal medicine, and refugee health. He has a special interest in dermatology and skin cancer medicine, with advanced procedural skills in lesion excision, flap repair, and grafting techniques. In recognition of his expertise, he has been awarded Recognised Extended Skills (RES) in Dermatology and Migrant and Refugee Health, in addition to his fellowship in General Practice.
Dr Aung is actively engaged in academic medicine and research, with over 40 publications and more than 150 peer-reviewed contributions across more than 20 national and international medical journals. He is committed to advancing evidence-based practice and supporting the development of future clinicians through teaching and mentorship. He currently serves as Senior Lecturer at the University of Queensland and Honorary Adjunct Assistant Professor at Bond University.
Through his combined roles in clinical practice, research, and medical education, Dr Aung contributes to improving health outcomes and strengthening primary care capacity in Australia.
