Professional biography
Tanya is an Assistant Professor in the Graduate Diploma in Legal Practice. She completed her LLB at the Queensland University of Technology in 1989 and was admitted to practice as a Solicitor in 1991 after completing a two year article clerkship. Tanya has worked in private practice and in-house roles for many decades. Tanya joined Bond University in 2011 and was the GDLP Director from June 2019 to August 2024. Tanya has presented papers and participated in panels including at Queensland Law Society symposiums and events, Wellness for Law Network, APLEC Ltd and at Bond University during Office of Learning and Teaching Symposiums. She has worked in voluntary capacity as a board/committee member with many organisations including APLEC Ltd, Gold Coast Domestic Violence Prevention Centre, Gold Coast District Law Association, Headway Gold Coast Inc and Multicultural Families Org Inc. Tanya has extensive experience in legal practice predominantly in civil and commercial litigation, as well as wills and estate administration. Tanya is a member of the Bond University Ally Network and is an accredited mental health first aider.
Research interests
Tanya’s research interests include legal skills and values, ethical responsibilities, resilience and wellbeing of law students and practitioners, job readiness, graduate employability and work integrated learning. Tanya was one of three chief investigators in a research project for the Queensland Law Society culminating in a report on ‘The Job Readiness of Law Graduates and Entry Level Solicitors in Private Practice’ which was released to the profession in 2023. Tanya was a Board Member of the Australasian Professional Legal Education Community Ltd (APLEC Ltd) from June 2019 to August 2024 and was co-chair of the working group appointed by APLEC Ltd to review and redraft the National Competency Standards for Entry-Level Lawyers (the PLT Standards) between February 2022 and August 2024.
