Research interests
I am interested in a range of areas related to sports medicine, injury rehabilitation, strength and conditioning, sports coaching and neuromechanics of human muscle. My most recent project involves investigating the phenomenon of residual force enhancement (rFE) which is achieved via the sequence of isometric-eccentric-isometric muscular contractions. I am interested to understand how rFE achieved via history dependenent muscle contractions can be used to improve the resilience of the hamstring muscle to injury. Furthermore, how history dependent contractions and rFE may be used in early stage hamstring strain injury rehabilitation to extract the benefits of highly controlled eccentric muscular contractions when combined with the perceived ‘safety’ of isometric contractions.
