Professional biography
Jo has been the Associate Dean, Student Affairs and Service Quality for the Health Science and Medicine faculty since January 2017 and works strategically with senior colleagues within faculty and across the university to ensure that the student experience is foremost. Our philosophy at Bond University and within faculty is to ensure each student has a personalised experience and thrive. Jo’s research focus is specifically in the area of student (and staff) well-being and its alignment within curricula using empirical evidence. Jo has coordinated the recent review of mental health and well-being within the University as the chair of the promoting well-being working group. The group contributes to the work of the Student Wellbeing and Safety Advisory Committee that reports directly to the VC. Jo contributed to the publication of the Medical student wellbeing – a consensus statement from Australia and New Zealand in 2019 and led the writing of the Learner wellbeing chapter in the Understanding Medical Education; Evidence, Theory and Practice textbook.
Research interests
Jo is the Head of Curriculum for the Bond University Medical Program. Jo contributes significantly to international discussions on student support and medical education pedagogy. A key role is to ensure a harmonised transition of medical graduates into the workforce. This is supported by Jo’s roles as chair of the Medical Deans of Australia and New Zealand’s (MDANZ) Student and Staff support sub-committee along with MDANZ representative of the National Doctors Health & Wellbeing Leadership Alliance with the purpose of facilitating coordinated action across the medical sector on the Every Doctor, Every Setting Framework.
