FITV11-102: Designing Cinema: Architecture and Production Design in Film

Description

This creative and practical hands-on, workshop-based subject delves deep into the fascinating and imaginative world of Production Design and the critical role it plays in bringing alive films and other screen media. Students will critically analyse and evaluate the aesthetic and experiential qualities of visual environments created according to the needs of genre and narrative. They will develop creative design skills in analogue and digital 2D and 3D visualisation, including model making and physical set design. Script analysis, visual interpretation, authenticity of atmosphere and design research (including historical and locational accuracy) will underpin all practical projects and exercises. Students will also develop skills in leadership, production design management and interdisciplinary collaboration between architecture and the screen industry.
