Description
Several major approaches to the treatment of people with intellectual, behavioural and academic difficulties will be covered. In particular, a number of evidence-bases therapy systems for intervention with target client groups will be examined, and students will be exposed to the application of these systems within selected contexts.

Learning outcomes
1. Identify and differentiate the major behaviourally-based intervention frameworks used to address the presenting problems of clients experiencing personal difficulty or distress.
2. Practice application of specific mental health interventions designed to meet the needs of clients experiencing personal difficulty or distress.
3. Select and evaluate mental health interventions suited to the needs of particular client groups.
4. Develop effective expressive, receptive and written communication skills as these apply to the Counselling and Behaviour Management environments.
