The Recommended Dose with Ray Moynihan – series 2 podcast kicks off with one of the most influential scientists on the planet

Series two of The Recommended Dose podcast kicked off this week with polymath and poet, Dr John Ioannidis.

Now in its second season, The Recommended Dose is hosted by multi-award-winning former ABC journalist and health researcher Dr Ray Moynihan of Bond University's Centre for Research in Evidence-Based Practice. The series is produced by independent health research organisation Cochrane Australia (part of the global Cochrane network), and is co-published by the BMJ – one of the world’s leading medical journals. The series explores the big issues in health today through conversations with leading thinkers from around the globe.

Recognised by The Atlantic as one the most influential scientists alive today, Dr John Ioannidis is a global authority on genetics, medical research and the nature of scientific inquiry itself – among many other things.

A professor at Stanford University, John has authored close to 1,000 academic papers and served on the editorial boards of 30 of the world's top journals. He is best known for seriously challenging the status quo. His trailblazing 2005 paper Why Most Published Research Findings Are False has been viewed over 2.5 million times and is the most cited article in the history of PLoS Medicine. In it, he argues that much medical research is biased, overblown or simply wrong. Here, he talks to Ray about the far-reaching implications of these findings for people both inside and outside the world of health.

Coming episodes of The Recommended Dose will feature conversations with one of the English-speaking world’s best known health reporters Dr Norman Swan, Rita Redberg - Editor-in-Chief of the highly influential journal JAMA Internal Medicine  - and pioneer health researcher Sir Iain Chalmers, among others. Season one opened with a compelling conversation with BMJ editor-in-chief Dr Fiona Godlee.

You’ll find all episodes on SoundCloud, iTunes, Stitcher or wherever you listen to your favourite podcasts. You can also visit australia.cochrane.org/trd for show notes and a full transcript of the show.
