Marist College in Canberra surpasses 5,000 pledges with One Goal, One Community

The boys of the Junior School recently viewed a presentation on ‘One Goal One Community’. The Year Ten Ambassadors for the programme did an outstanding job of reminding the boys about:

  • What bullying really is?
  • What types of bullying people may experience.
  • How a bystander can change the pattern of behaviour of a bully.
  • How we should all work against bullying in our lives.

This presentation was targeted particularly at the new boys in the Junior School. Last year all our boys signed the pledge with their families and received wrist bands as a visible sign of their commitment.
At the time of writing the College as a whole has given out 5000 wrist bands in support of our stand against bullying! This is an outstanding effort and ranks us among the top schools in Australia in terms of support for this partnership project with Bond University.
We would appreciate that all families take this pledge very seriously – that you remind your sons (and daughters) that we all have a role in taking a stand against bullying in our homes, schools, workplaces and society. Please let’s be faithful to the pledge you will have signed this year or last “…I hereby commit to actively encourage in behaviours aimed at putting an end to bullying and collectively bettering our society…”
Be sure also that your son wears his armband as a visible sign of support for the initiative also! (One only please!) That means also that other family members may wear the bands at home and at work in support of the project.
Grateful thanks to Ryan Sandison, Morgan Clark and Tom Byles for their work and enthusiasm with the project.
