Bull Sharks to perform at AFL Past Players Day

By Holly Slattery

The Bull Sharks are preparing to put on a show for a massive home crowd as they take on Coomera and Yeronga this Saturday.

The annual Past Players Day welcomes former Bull Sharks back to The Canal to cheer on the 2022 QFA and QAFLW sides as they continue their quest to add more silverware to Bond’s collection.

The men’s teams will take to the home grounds first in a battle against the Coomera Magpies.

Despite sitting mid-table, the visitors put serious pressure on the undefeated Bond side in Round 3 which resulted in the seniors’ narrowest victory of the season.

The men’s reserves look forward to clocking some game time after weeks of being washed out and a forfeit from the Tweed Coast Tigers last Saturday.

Yeronga will travel down the M1 for a Round 5 rematch against Bond’s women’s teams which prevailed over the Brisbane side in their first clash of the season.

A special intermission at half-time of the men’s senior match will see the 2017 QWFA premiership side celebrate their five-year reunion, where club stalwarts Paris Lightfoot, Krystal Scott, Georgia Wakefield and Grace Bradley will be joined by former teammates  relive the glory days of their premiership success.

With two major home games and a celebration of the club’s first female premiers, Bond AFL director Michael Swann says the annual event will be an exciting one to attend.

“Coomera have been travelling really well this year so we’re expecting that one to be a really good litmus test for our men’s side, and we always end up having really good games against Yeronga that are always close battles,” he said.

“Playing against the same club that our 2017 women’s side won against is also going to add a bit of extra spice to the day.”

Swann says events like Past Players Days are part of Bond’s commitment to driving connection and belonging through sport.

“For the footy club it helps us reconnect with our past to bring them into what we’re doing at the moment and really get everyone on the same page about contributing to our future.”
