Netball rough and tumble

Queensland representative Lily Phillips has won over Bull Sharks fans after her heroics against the Wildcats in round 13 of the Queensland Ruby Series on Tuesday night.

The 17-year-old Southport High Student was knocked down multiple times during the physical battle, however she continued to hunt for the ball to earn 50 per cent of Bond’s turnover gains.

The committed centre finished with four intercepts, nine tips and five pick-ups from loose balls.

“She’s always so committed to the game and wanting the best of the team,” said assistant manager Georgia Gillibrand.

“She’s a feisty little player and definitely a massive asset to the team dynamic.’’

The Bull Sharks trailed the Wildcats by just three points at the end of the third quarter, before their M1 rivals sealed the game 49-45.

The Bull Sharks are still seeking their fourth win of the season.

Phillips had a taste of the top tier competition last year when she played one game for Bond in the Sapphire Series.

She was also selected in the Under 17s Queensland squad.

Bond head to Ipswich on Sunday to take on the Tigers as part of regional round.
