Construction is now underway on the Soheil Abedian School of Architecture building on campus, reinforcing Bond University’s position as a world leader in innovative and sustainable design.
A natural extension to the rapidly growing Institute of Sustainable Development and Architecture – the Soheil Abedian School of Architecture building will sit alongside the Mirvac School of Sustainable Development building, which was Australia’s first 6 Star Green Star rated educational building and beneficiary of local, national and international sustainability awards.
Designed by globally renowned architect Sir Peter Cook from CRAB Studios in London the new building is innovative, ultra-modern, and bold in design; yet practical and creative in function.
The project is funded by the University with a generous gift from long-standing supporter and benefactor Soheil Abedian, after whom the School is named in recognition of his vision and support.
It marks another significant development for the University, and the last of many overseen by outgoing Vice-Chancellor Professor Robert Stable, who retires next month after eight years in the role.
In an era punctuated by a growth in status and recognition for Bond, increasing student numbers, and the introduction of new Faculties, Schools and programs, the changes on campus are just some of the many highlights of his tenure.
From the refurbishment and upgrading of existing facilities, to the ground-breaking Mirvac School of Sustainable development, the changes to the Bond campus have ensured the campus remains beautiful and continues to be at the forefront of providing world class technological, educational and recreational facilities that enrich the student experience.
In the years 2004-2011 Bond has also opened the $20 million Faculty of Health Sciences and Medicine building, unveiled the technology-rich Balnaves Foundation Multimedia Learning Centre and undertaken world class extensions to the iconic John and Alison Kearney Library and refurbishments of the Faculty of Law facilities. A pet project of Professor Stable’s – the ADCO Amphitheatre and Alumni Court – was also seen through to fruition and has become a hub for community engagement and cultural events hosted by the University.
