High school students enjoy their law experience

On Saturday 18 May, a record 109 students and parents participated in Bond University’s Law Experience.

Hosted on campus by the Faculty of Law from 9am to 3pm, the annual event is aimed at students who have an interest in legal studies and/or a career in law, and provides them with information on what it takes to study law and the diverse career options available to them.

Students were able to connect with professors in an informed and interactive environment including presentations, panel discussions and demonstrations in Bond University’s prestigious Moot Court.

Relevant topics including New Social Media and Cybercrime were presented by Associate Professor Sara Smyth and Assistant Professor Annette Greenhow was joined by alumna Paralympic Gold Medallist Annabelle Williams for her presentation on Olympics and The Law.

Students who are currently involved in the High School Mooting Competition and wish to go on to compete nationally and internationally enjoyed the Mooting and Advocacy presentation by Director of Mooting, Joel Butler.

Year 11 and 12 students, Jasmine Veldhuizen and Rachel Tomassen from Varsity College attended the event to consider options about studying law at Bond University.

Year 12 student Jasmine had previously attended other events at the campus while considering what to study, but since attending Law Experience will be applying for the Student for a Semester program commencing in September 2013 in addition to completing her scholarship applications to study as a full time Bond University student in 2014.

Attending students and parents both found the event to be a positive experience and getting to see the demonstrations in the Moot Court was a highlight.
