CHNL11-111: Chinese in Business and Media


This subject is designed for students who have completed CHNL11-101 or equivalent courses. The aim of this subject is to further develop your awareness and understanding of Chinese (Mandarin) speaking societies and cultures, focusing on business and the media, and to introduce you to more complex communicative structures. Using a content and language integrated approach, this subject will introduce you to various aspects of business and the media in Chinese speaking countries while developing your communicative competence in the Chinese (Mandarin) language.

Learning outcomes

1. Recognise, evaluate and compare cultural differences on issues discussed in the media and related to conducting businesses in the Chinese-speaking world and other cultures.
2. Communicate in simple and routine tasks requiring a simple and direct exchange of information about matters related to work, study, and personal interests.
3. Apply knowledge and skills to further your knowledge of the Chinese language and culture.
4. Work collaboratively with your peers to improve your use of the Chinese (Mandarin) language.
