Research interests

Research expertise

My research interests include curriculum integration of simulation-based education (SBE), cardio-respiratory physiotherapy education, patient safety, human factors and inter-professional SBE, video-reflexivity and video-ethnography.

I have received over £376,480/ AUD$737,900 for research and knowledge exchange activities. These projects included substantial development of academic enterprise across a broad range of enterprise activities, predominantly relating to enhancing teaching and learning activities within external Universities and Healthcare organisations in England and Australia. I have been invited to speak at 15 national and international conferences and invited to write several book chapters and peer reviewed manuscripts pertaining to learning and teaching.

I was awarded Principal Fellowship of the Higher Education Academy, in recognition of successful, strategic leadership to enhance student learning, with a focus on enhancing teaching quality in institutional, national and international settings, and championing institutional and external approaches to academic practice. 

In 2017, I was appointed as 1 of 4 Senior Editors for a Major Reference Work featuring 121 chapters, on Clinical Education for the Health Professions: Theory and Practice.

East Midlands HIEC: A ‘blended' learning approach to improve knowledge, skills and attitudes towards prescribing. (Reference Code: LEI0085, 28th of January 2013 - January 2014). This is a multi-centre collaborative research project with Dr R Patel (University of Leicester), Dr M Lin (University of Leicester), Dr W Green (University of Leicester), Dr R Mandalia (University of Leicester), (University of Leicester) Dr R Jay (University Hospitals Trust Leicester), Dr M Fores (University Hospitals Trust Leicester), Professor J Sandars (University of Leeds), (£48,939).

NHS North West Funding: Development of a Undergraduate Pan-Regional Interprofessional Simulation Based Education Course, April 2011 - September 2012. This funded the development and delivery of a World Health Organization (WHO) Complementary Pilot Study for the Multi-professional Patient Safety Curriculum. Suzanne was the Principal Invesitgator for the WHO study. (£8499).

NanoInfoBio, Bridging The Gaps Early Adopter Project: Design, simulation, modelling and analysis of a real time tactile and fibre optic pressure sensor system to measure chest wall vibrations for Physiotherapy.
