Bull Sharks triumph in clash with the Titans

The Bull Sharks have claimed bragging rights over the cross town rivals with derby wins over the Gold Coast Titans.

Bull Sharks v Titans

Sapphire Series

Bull Sharks win 50-48

Where it was won:

I think it was won with the composed heads of our more experienced players. They directed traffic on court and slowed the play when Titans were playing frantically.

The highlight:

The final buzzer. The girls were very controlled and steady playing the ball around in the last 30 seconds to use the clock up, but the sound of that final buzzer was a huge relief.

What made you happy:

I utilised all 11 players to get the win, and they all contributed to the final result. I have such depth in my team, I can inject players off the bench, and they make immediate positive impact.

Bull Sharks Netball:

We put in the work to be physically and mentally prepared to handle all style of play and strategies. We play clean and we play with sportsmanship – and I don’t expect anything less. We had a lot thrown at this this game, and the girls maintained their composure to grind out the win.

The work to do:

We had a lot of unforced errors in this game. In saying this, it was our first game, coming off the Rd 1 bye, and in front of an animated Titans home crowd. We had a number of Sapphire debuts, so there were definitely some nerves at play. If we can look to minimise even half those errors, we shouldn’t put ourselves under so much pressure in games moving forward.

Trademark player:

Lauren Aubrey in her Sapphire series debut. Lauren started on the bench but came into the game towards the end of the first quarter and made an immediate impact. Her pressure over the shot and rebounding ability had their GA shoot at 43 per cent. She was also responsible for several deflections and gains. It was a very impressive start for her first Sapphire encounter. I am looking forward to watching her growth over the season and building great connections with those around her.

With Rebecca Stower.

Ruby Series

Bull Sharks win 47-39

Where it was won:

It was a full team defensive effort.

The highlight:

Seeing the girls control the game and not be intimated or shy away from the physicality that the Titans players bring to the game.

What made you happy:

Seeing our two training partners Evie Stower and Eunice Kidmas make their debut and have an immediate impact they brought to the court.

Bull Sharks Netball:

I couldn’t be any prouder to see our Development Players, training partners and Sapphire girls all there supporting our Ruby girls. Then to see our Ruby girls cheer and support our Sapphire girls after their game just shows the culture we have built.

The work to do:

We had a lot of unforced errors in this game so these will be addressed over the week at training.

Trademark player:

Abby Boland had an outstanding game shooting 32 of the 49 goals at 86 per cent. The defenders on her were very physical however she maintained her composure throughout and controlled the game.

With Kim Boland.
