Book Launch: Internationalisation of Law: Legislating, Decision Making, Practice and Education

Bond Law recently hosted the launch of the book Internationalisation of Law: Legislating, Decision Making, Practice and Education, edited by Emeritus Professor Mary Hiscock and Professor William van Caenegem.

The occasion also served as an opportunity to celebrate and congratulate all Faculty authors and contributors who have had books published this year.

2010 saw 11 titles published by Bond Law academics, marking the Faculty’s strongest performance of the previous five years and bringing us to the impressive total of 45 publications for the period 2005-2010.

The latest launch of Internationalisation of Law: Legislating, Decision Making, Practice and Education, is a record of the proceedings of the Faculty’s 2009 Symposium on “The Internationalisation of Law”, held on campus from 26-27 June last year.

The Symposium celebrated Bond’s 20th Anniversary and attracted an assembly of distinguished scholars from around the world, examining teaching, research, legal practice, law making and dispute resolution through the prism of internationalisation, both examining Bond’s achievements and looking ahead to future challenges and directions.

It was held in conjunction with the Sir Gerard Brennan lecture (also included in the book), as delivered by the Chief Justice of the High Court, the Honourable Robert French, on the topic: ‘Oil and Water? International and Domestic Law in Australia’.

Published by Edward Elgar, Internationalisation of Law: Legislating, Decision Making, Practice and Education embodies a tangible representation of what has been achieved by the faculty over the past 20 years and illuminates the way forward for the next 20 years.

It explores the acute challenges presented by the ‘internationalisation’ of law, a trend that has been accelerated by the growing requirement for academics and practitioners to work and research across countries and regions with differing legal traditions.
