Bond University’s Institute for Evidence-Based Healthcare is a leading health and medical research institute seeking applications from candidates interested in ensuring that the voices and perspectives of patients and the broader community are integrated our medical research process.
These are important roles and will be representing and advocating for and representing people with lived experience of non-communicable health conditions. Examples include cardiovascular diseases (e.g., heart, stroke, kidney, peripheral vascular disease), diabetes, lung disease, cancer, arthritis, and osteoporosis.
The consumer representatives will also have the opportunity to learn about consumer involvement in health and medical research, shape our research projects' future directions, and ensure the continuous improvement of the Institute for Evidence-Based Healthcare.
These are casual positions, available on an ‘as-needed’ basis, and offer a unique chance to influence impactful health and medical research while ensuring community needs and diverse perspectives are well-represented.
As a Health and Medical Research Consumer Advisor, you will:
- Actively provide input and advocacy as a consumer representative in health and medical research initiatives.
- Demonstrate an understanding of the principles of access and equity in the allocation of health resources.
- Attend and participate in meetings (approximately 2–3 annually), contributing effectively to discussions and decision-making processes.
- Offer advice and support in the planning and implementation of consumer engagement strategies.
- Ensure diverse perspectives and consumer needs are effectively represented and integrated into initiatives.
About the person
We are looking for candidates with:
- Strong connections to patient communities and the health consumer sector.
- An understanding of the consumer sector’s diverse needs and applying this to effect change.
- Experience living with or being a carer for someone with a non-communicable disease.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
- A passion for patient rights and advocacy.
- Experience in committee roles as a consumer representative (desirable).
Salary details
The hourly rate for this casual role is $52.16 (this includes 25% casual Loading) plus 11.5% superannuation.
