Professional biography

Kate commenced as the Assistant Professor of Healthcare Innovations at Bond University in 2019. She is an Accredited Practising Dietitian (APD) and has worked in the Higher Education sector for over 12 years across various roles at Bond University and Griffith University, and as an adjunct senior lecturer at the University of Queensland (UQ). In these roles, Kate has taught undergraduate and postgraduate students from a range of disciplines.

Kate was previously the Student Placement Coordinator and Dietitian Clinic Lead at the Institute for Urban Indigenous Health (IUIH), a not-for-profit Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Community Controlled Organization which leads the planning, development and delivery of innovative, comprehensive primary healthcare to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities in the South East Queensland Region.

Kate is passionate about providing rewarding learning experiences to health professionals interested in critically evaluating healthcare practices, navigating research evidence, and using design and systems thinking to identify opportunities for innovation. Kate’s research interests are focussed on education in healthcare, interprofessional practice, Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander health, chronic disease management, and the recruitment and retention factors affecting health professionals. Kate’s PhD research was in the area of group-based education for the management of chronic diseases, focusing on type 2 diabetes mellitus.
