MMDE11-300: Sketching with Code

Description

This subject introduces students to a critically important skillset for new media scholars and practitioners. Students will learn the primitive operations and control flow at the level of procedural rhetoric, aesthetics and poetics encoded in today's highly visual and interactive digital media. Through the use of computational and visual methods students will explore the patterns and dynamics of algorithmic generated art, computer games and the richness of interactivity.

Learning outcomes

  1. Students will gain experience in methodical problem solving skills through deep analysis and creative approaches to tasks and activities.
  2. Students will have the opportunity to gain experience in clear and transparent communication skills in relation to giving others instructions for completing tasks from start to finish.
  3. Students will be able to use a simple procedural scripting tool to create computer generated art forms.
