LAWS77-751: Foundations of Legal Education

Description

Foundations of Legal Education is the first in a series of subjects about Australian legal education. It focuses on the principles of best practice, history and context of legal education. Students will also be introduced to critical perspectives on legal education, including the need for legal education reform in the context of widespread disruption within the legal services sector. The subject will commence the development of the student's skills in contemporary curriculum and assessment design, and support students in identifying and articulating their philosophy of teaching. Student learning will be facilitated using a mix of online and face-to-face instruction, with instructors modelling best practice in law curriculum design and delivery. Some familiarity with the teaching and practice of law in Australia is assumed, but it is anticipated that most students will not be familiar with educational scholarship and theory.
