LAWS13-582: Strata and Community Title

Description

Strata and Community Title is an elective subject in undergraduate programs offered by the Faculty of Law. Students will be provided with a practical study of common interest real estate developments with the emphasis on strata and community titles. This subject takes a ‘time-line’ approach starting with the development process and progressing through the administrative, lifestyle, asset protection and conflict phases of a project. The focus will be on Queensland legislation while highlighting similarities and differences with the legislation in other major Australian jurisdictions.

Learning outcomes

  1. Identify the theory and practice of strata title development, governance and management in the Queensland context.
  2. Outline the major differences between the legislation in Queensland and other major Australian jurisdictions.
  3. Describe the technical nature of the legislation and the extent to which it is supplemented by the common law.
  4. Recognise the types of conflict that commonly exist in a body corporate environment and the way in which those conflicts are resolved.

Assumed knowledge:

Assumed knowledge is the minimum level of knowledge of a subject area that students are assumed to have acquired through previous study.
