INTR13-303: China's Defence and Security

Description

This subject introduces you to China’s defence and security in terms of the risks and challenges it faces, its strategic environment and policy directions. You will study historical-cultural factors that shape contemporary China’s strategic outlook, as the new strategic landscape emerges under China’s expanding influence. This has been aided by the transformation of its defence and security forces through increased technological sophistication whilst ensuring ideological commitment. Through subject activities, you will explore traditional and non-traditional, internal and external security issues including transborder concerns, counter-terrorism, new defence missions, and influence operations. This subject will give you an opportunity to expand your understanding of a country that has become a major focus in international relations and geopolitics.

Learning outcomes
