Description
Any successful innovation begins with a new, useful idea, but many organisational systems and structures inhibit this process. Also, while innovation is often viewed an outcome, it can also be viewed as a dynamic process of invention, development and implementation. This subject focuses on individual, group and organisational factors related to enabling creativity and innovation. Students will explore the factors that both stimulate and hinder creativity in individuals, teams and organisations through a highly engaged and experiential classroom experience. Organisational systems, management philosophies and frameworks are studied that embed creativity as an integral part of an innovative organisation, resulting in a set of skills and knowledge base that will empower students to be innovation enablers in their future work endeavours.

1. Describe the individual, contextual and group factors that affect creativity and the relationship between creativity and innovation.
2. Explain how the factors affecting creativity may interact and the likely consequences of those interactions.
3. Describe the key concepts and major approaches (i.e., theories and models) to understanding the complexities of innovation processes.
4. Explain the key mechanisms underlying the invention, development and implementation of innovation.
5. Evaluate the systems, structures and other related organisational design elements and provide recommendations to improve the creative and innovative capacity of the organisation.
6. Demonstrate knowledge and skills relevant to fostering and enhancing individual and collective creativity and innovation.
