Capacity building focuses on strengthening performance and identifying opportunities for improvement to increase the impact of our research.

Researchers at Bond University have many opportunities to develop their professional capability; access new networks and future collaborations; enhance their career development; increase their leadership potential and improve their career satisfaction.

Researcher Development and Mentoring Scheme

The Researcher Development and Mentoring Scheme at Bond University was launched in 2017 to provide every academic with the opportunity to reach their potential in a culture of research, learning and teaching excellence.

Our innovative Research Development and Mentoring Scheme provides a platform for nurturing the talent of our academics and supporting their career progression. A range of capacity building initiatives provide support and guidance and for researchers at every stage of their career.

The Principal Supervisor Accreditation Program (PSAP) was developed as a new pathway to HDR supervision. As part of Bond University's capacity building initiatives, academics are invited to participate in a series of workshops to increase their capacity and become Principal Supervisors.

Academics who successfully participate in the year-long program, hold appropriate qualifications, and are research active, can then be accredited as a Principal Supervisor and added to the Principal Supervisor register at Bond University.

[email protected] empowers an academic to reach their potential through a supportive relationship network that focuses on collegiality to bring about personal, professional and career development.

Mentoring is a process whereby a more experienced person offers guidance and advice to someone less experienced to assist them to reach their career aspirations. The mentor encourages the mentee to identify their goals and aspirations, then empowers the mentee to pursue and achieve them.

Bond University support mentors and mentees with guidance, social events, and coaching workshops, with support from their Faculty Mentoring Advocates. Participation in the [email protected] program will be recognised as a contribution for the Research Activity report which is used for Performance Development Reviews and Academic Promotions.

[email protected] unlocks the potential of academics to maximise their performance by facilitating personal learning and development through skilful questioning, challenge and feedback.

The benefits of coaching include increased motivation and productivity, improved communication and networks, greater self-awareness, and a better understanding of one’s career path.

From 2018, Bond University will offer professional development coaching by staff for staff. These short workshops are available to all staff and will focus on a variety of topics including research methods; career management; analysing and synthesising data; work-life balance; networking and communication; project planning; team work and collaboration.

The Vitae Researcher Development Framework is an online professional development tool for self-directed professional learning and career development of researchers in higher education. It enables researchers to identify their strengths, prioritise areas for improvement and develop a personalised action plan.

Bond University is a Vitae organisational member and all staff and students can register with their university email to access online resources.

The Vitae Researcher Development Framework (RDF) is structured into four domains covering the knowledge, behaviours and attributes of successful researchers. It sets out the wide-ranging knowledge, intellectual abilities, techniques and professional standards expected to do research, as well as the personal qualities, knowledge and skills to work with others and ensure the wider impact of research.
