What our academics say

Dr Lisa Gowthorp

Assistant Professor, Sport Management

“The Diploma of Sport Management provides students with a sample of sport subjects to give them an idea of the content and activities undertaken in the Bachelor of Sport Management Program. Most of the students who undertake the Diploma have a love of sport and want to work in the sport industry in some capacity. Throughout the program, students will gain an understanding of the types of careers available in the sport industry, and what roles they can undertake as a sport manager. Roles in sport management may include activities associated with sport events, sport and athlete development, sport participation, sport marketing and promotion, elite athlete and team management, or sport media to name a few. In class, we discuss issues associated with the global sport industry and examine ways to overcome the challenges sport managers face in today’s society. The majority of students who complete the Diploma have enjoyed it so much that they transition into the Bachelor program, where an exclusive internship caps off the degree. I would recommend the Diploma of Sport Management to any student wanting to gain an entry level university degree and also an understanding of the sport management environment.”
