The Centre for Dispute Resolution offers short courses and supervised clinical training in family dispute resolution for those seeking professional development in family mediation, as well as those wishing to become an accredited Family Dispute Resolution Practitioner (FDRP). For one-on-one guidance, please contact us to speak with one of our Centre team members.
The practice of family dispute resolution is a specialist area of dispute resolution and is regulated at a national level. The Federal Attorney-General’s Department manages accreditation for FDRPs. If you are seeking FDRP accreditation through completion of these courses, please read the FDRP accreditation information provided below to ensure you are eligible before registering for a course.

Family Dispute Resolution Practitioner accreditation information
Below is a summary of the FDRP accreditation requirements. Whilst our team can provide you with general guidance on accreditation eligibility and requirements, we strongly suggest you research the requirements outlined by the Federal Attorney-General’s Department, who ultimately manage accreditation for Family Dispute Resolution Practitioners in Australia.
To be eligible to make an application to the Federal Attorney-General’s Department for FDRP accreditation, you must have completed:
- All four of Bond University’s Mediation and Family Dispute Resolution courses* and supervised practice, as follows:
- Mediation Training 1: Process and Skills
- Mediation Training 2: Practice and Assessment
- Family Dispute Resolution Training 1: Process and SkillsÂ
- Family Dispute Resolution Training 2: Supervised Clinical Practice
- An additional 20 hours of FDR supervised practice. This may be completed through the Bond University FDR Clinic.
AND have completed either an undergraduate degree/higher qualification in Psychology, Social Work, Law, Conflict Management, Dispute Resolution, Family Law Mediation or equivalent and hold a current accreditation under the National Mediator Accreditation System (NMAS) to meet the certification requirements of the Attorney General’s office.Â
*If you hold a current accreditation under the NMAS, however have not completed the Bond University Mediation Training courses listed above, you can complete our Family Dispute Resolution Training Preparation course to meet the pre-requisites for the Family Dispute Resolution courses.Â
Those who have completed a Graduate Certificate in Family Dispute Resolution or the Master of Laws in Family Dispute Resolution, and hold a current accreditation under the NMAS, are also eligible to apply.
Important information for participants of FDRP training courses prior to 2017:
Please be advised from 1 May, 2017, the Bond University Dispute Resolution Centre’s Family Dispute Resolution Practitioner training course changed due to the introduction of the FDRP training package CHC81115. Therefore we are no longer able to sign a certificate of competency under the old training package. Participants who did not complete the requirements by the deadline will need to retrain by completing the equivalent of the new training package.

These courses are designed to suit busy professionals who are wishing to enhance their skills in family mediation and assist families in dealing with separation issues and parenting plans. Family Dispute Resolution Training Preparation
Duration:Â 6 hours

Location: Online (self-paced)Pre-requisites: This course has been designed for those who wish to complete the Family Dispute Resolution courses AND hold a current accreditation under the NMAS, however have not completed the Mediation courses through Bond University’s Centre for Dispute Resolution, as follows:
The Family Dispute Resolution Training Preparation course can be completed online at anytime via our learner portal and will provide you with the essential knowledge, skills and processes that will be further enhanced and developed when completing the Family Dispute Resolution Practitioner courses.

Family Dispute Resolution Training 1: Process and Skills
Duration: 5 days
Cost: $2610
Location: Online (via Zoom)Pre-requisites:
- Completion of the two Bond University Mediation Courses OR completion of an approved NMAS accreditation course and NMAS accreditation as well as Bond University Family Dispute Resolution Training Preparation Course.
Note: There are requirements under the Family Law (Family Dispute Resolution Practitioners) Regulations 2008 (Cth) relating to qualifications and competencies required for accreditation as a Family Dispute Resolution Practitioner (FDRP). You should review these requirements to ensure that you will be eligible to apply for accreditation as an FDRP and become accredited as an FDRP. It is also highly recommended that you contact the Attorney-General’s department - Practitioner Registration Unit - if you have any questions. Family Dispute Resolution Training 2: Supervised Clinical Practice
Duration: 4 days
Cost: $2610
Location: Online (via Zoom)Pre-requisites:
- Completion of the two Bond University Mediation Courses OR the Family Dispute Resolution Training Preparation course; AND
- Completion of Family Dispute Resolution Training 1: Process and Skills; AND
- have completed either an undergraduate degree/higher qualification in Psychology, Social Work, Law, Conflict Management, Dispute Resolution, Family Law Mediation or equivalent, and hold a current accreditation under the National Mediator Accreditation System (NMAS).
This course will consolidate the family dispute resolution (FDR) knowledge, skills and strategies you will have learnt from the other courses, through practical application in complex simulations and clinical practice. Over 30 hours of supervised practice, you will demonstrate FDR practices necessary to manage a range of challenging scenarios within the context of post-separation parental conflict.
