Japanese Language and Culture is designed for students with no previous knowledge of Japanese. Japan is one of the most dynamic nations in Asia and a major trading partner of Australia. Japanese is a key world language for cultural, economic, research and government interactions. Studying Japanese language, culture and society will expand your cultural and intercultural awareness and your ability to communicate effectively across cultural borders. It will also extend your global career opportunities. Through content and language integrated approach, focusing on aspects of Japanese culture, the subject also aims to develop basic communicative proficiency in the Japanese language.

1. Identify, analyse, evaluate and communicate introductory knowledge of the Japanese language and broad theoretical knowledge about the Japanese Language and Culture. 2. Independently and in teams, generate and transmit solutions to unpredictable and sometimes complex problems related to the Japanese Language and Culture. 3. Apply the knowledge and understanding of the Japanese Language and Culture to professional work and/or further learning, demonstrating well-developed judgement and responsibility.
