Yi Chen

Professional biography

Yi Chen 陳怡 entered academia in Fu Dan University, Shanghai, China with a B.A. in Chinese Literature (1995) and an M.A. (1998) and Ph.D. (2001) in Western Philosophy. She taught Ethics at the Shanghai University of Finance and Economics before embarking on a pursuit for the cultural roots of philosophy, with an M.A.in Ancient Greek and Latin Classics at the University of Arizona, U.S.A. (2008) and a Ph.D. in Comparative Literature at the University of Toronto, Canada (2015) where she developed a phenomenological approach to literary comparison. Subsequently she held an Alexander-von-Humboldt Research Fellowship at the Max Planck Institute for Empirical Aesthetics in Frankfurt am Main, Germany (2016–2017), working on “Deceptive Simplicity” as an aesthetic principle. Yi Chen joined the Faculty of Society and Design at Bond University in 2017.
