Professional biography

Rosita helped introduce the International Relations program at Bond University and is a founding member of the Centre for East-West Cultural and Economic Studies. She lectures and writes on the themes of China’s defence policy and strategic philosophy, classical and critical geopolitics, concepts of security and strategy, and future trends in global politics.

Her research interests are: China’s foreign and defence policy, China’s strategic philosophy; and transformative processes in international relations. Rosita has published one book on China’s defence strategy; co-edited a book on Confucian humanism; co-authored a book on China’s quest for global order (2013), and another on the politics and philosophy of Chinese power (2017). She has also published numerous book chapters, journal articles (some co-authored), handbook articles, and presented regularly at international conferences.

Research interests

I lecture and write on the themes of Chinese defence policy, foreign policy and philosophy, geopolitics, and future trends in global politics.

My research interests are China’s defence philosophy and global policy, geopolitics and futures studies.

Statement for HDR students

I supervise research projects on:

  • China's foreign and defence policies
  • Confucian, Daoist and Buddhist philosophical applications to international relations
  • Strategic studies and the role of strategic culture

I have previously supervised PhDs on the topics of:

  • The operational history of China's People's Liberation Army
  • China's cyber warfare doctrine
  • Taiwan's democratisation
  • The reconceptualization of citizenship, community and the sacred in the global age
  • Buddhist philosophy and global governance
  • Japan's human security concepts

As of 2018, I am supervising four PhD topics, three concerning China's foreign relations and one on faith-based diplomacy.
