Professional biography

Paula is independently recognised as one of Australia’s leading sports and events lawyers following her work leading the legal teams for the 2018 Commonwealth Games on the Gold Coast and the Invictus Games in Sydney. In January 2021, Paula was engaged as the primary legal adviser for the Queensland Government’s successful 2032 multi-billion dollar bid to host the 2032 Summer Olympic and Paralympic Games. The scope of her work included the design and implementation of a complex contractual framework to ensure compliance with the International Olympic Committee requirements, as well as management of material State risks relating to the project. Paula also works with other sporting and event organisations such as Queensland Polo, International Table Tennis Federation of Oceania, Football Australia and Major Events Gold Coast. She has increasingly been involved in the administration and governance of sporting organisations, particularly in relation to governance reform to achieve best practice standards. A co-founder and director of Ailier Pty Ltd, Paula was previously a partner at MinterEllison. Since its launch in 2019, Ailier has been recognised as a finalist at the Australian Law Awards for Regional Law Firm of the Year (2020), Boutique Law Firm of the Year (2021) and Commercial Law Firm of the Year (2021). Paula is also a Semester Associate Professor at the Faculty of Law, Bond University.
