Research Profile

Professional biography

I have worked as a Physiotherapist since 2001. My clinical area of expertise is in the field of Paediatrics. I am the Paediatric Lead for research and coursework in the Physiotherapy department and in my role as Academic Coordinator of Clinical Education, I oversee all clinical placements for students in the Doctor of Physiotherapy program. My research is focused around child health and fitness and clinical education, where I have partnered with NSW Health and the NSW and QLD Education Departments in developing models for student led, School Health programs.

Research interests

My areas of research are focused across two streams:

  • Paediatrics / Child Health, Fitness and Learning
  • Clinical / Health-professions Education. 

I completed my PhD in 2014 on the topic titled 

  • Developing a simple tool for screening the health and motor performance-related fitness of children.  

During 2014 and 2015 I led the

  • Tweed Healthy Schools Project; a pilot program and development of Paediatric Interprofessional Supervision and Service Learning Framework for health services in schools.

Funding from North Coast Interdisciplinary Clinical Training Network, HETI/HWA.

 I am currently leading a research collaboration with colleagues from Bond University, Queensland Health and Australian Catholic University in a CETI funded project titled:

  • Creating a supportive clinical learning environment for physiotherapy students: a feasibility study to enhance collaboration between students and educators using the ‘Everything DiSC’. 

Additionally I am leading an interprofessional research collaboration in the Faculty of Health Sciences and Medicine at Bond University to complete a ECR funded project titled:

  • Can student’s unique behavioural patterns as identified through the Everything DiSC, predict success in health professional programs?
