Research interests

As an experienced researcher, I am driven to understand and explore how changed systems of care can deliver better outcomes. My research interestests have always been focused on answering important questions that will directly influence the practice of medicine in the community. A series of projects led to the TrueBlue randomised trial to better manage patients with depression and diabetes or heart disease, or both. I have investigated how GP computer records can be used to improve patient safety and as a tool for quality improvement.

My current projects are investigating ways to improve health outcomes in patients with multiple long term medical conditions. I am investigating ways to deprescribe in patients taking multiple medications.

With colleagues in the discipline of general practice at Bond, I am investigating the influence of cognitive bias on clinical decision. We are also developing a research program around resilience in medical students and doctors.

In the health policy space, I am a member of groups advising government about Health Care Homes, safety of the digital My Health record and Medical Benefits Schedule Review.
