Research Profile

Professional biography

During my undergraduate degree I majored in physiology and pursued this interest through Honours, PhD and subsequent work with studies in reproductive physiology. I have also developed my interests in learning and teaching through extensive work on curriculum development particularly in relation to health professional education. I have been involved with development and implementation of several new and revised curricula across a range of disciplines. More broadly I have contributed to academic policy development, accreditation processes for health professional programs and staff support/development. I have maintained teaching roles within the discipline of physiology and in areas of learning and teaching including curriculum development and engaging students with teaching.

Research interests

I obtained my PhD in the area of reproductive physiology. My work in the Faculty of Health Science and Medicine has led me to research in higher education, both within health professional education and more generally.

My current research interests span multiple areas of interest in higher education.

Major research topics for which I have received funding from the Australian Government Office for Learning and Teaching are graduate employability and postgraduate student experience. For both projects I have led research teams from across Australia to explore perceptions of students, staff and, in the case of graduate employability, employers.

Key outcomes from the projects are available in the form of recommendations for strategies to improve employability and student experience targeted at students, educators, senior university administrators and employers. Further information on both projects and their outcomes is available  http://graduateemployability.com/  and http://postgraduatestudentexperience.com/ 

Other areas of research interest include curriculum development and professional development for academic and clinical educator staff.
