Professional biography

Associate Professor Beata Webb's research focuses on megatrends in education, specifically on the digitalisation and internationalisation of education in Australia and globally. Managing, developing and teaching online programs for a decade have inspired her passion for online and multimodal teaching and learning, and employing technology to increase student access to highest quality education, anywhere, anytime. Extensive expertise in training language teachers has sparked her passion for training educators and educational managers in a wide range of fields and roles, beyond language teaching.

As a leader of the Humanities and Global Studies discipline area (2017-2022), Dr Beata Webb assisted a broad range of professionals across multiple disciplines in maximising their capacity to teach, design curricula and manage educational processes. This role motivated her interests in educational management and leadership. Her research and practical training skills aim to support educators and other professionals in designing effective online learning and work environments and understanding linguistically and culturally diverse student cohorts. She has delivered keynote addresses, conference papers and professional workshops in education in Australia and internationally.

Research interests

My research interests extend to education, applied linguistics and linguistics. I have lectured in linguistics and language teacher education in Australia for over 25 years. Working with students and teachers from all over the world has inspired and determined my main research, which focuses on internationalisation of education in Australia and worldwide, international student mobility and intercultural teaching and learning. My research aims to improve understanding the nature of linguistically and culturally diverse student cohorts, leading to better preparation of teachers and institutions for the challenges presented by international student mobility, diversity and global citizenship.

My other professional interests include the use of technology in education and e-learning. In the field of linguistics, my work focuses on cognitive linguistics and the study of discourse, with a particular interest in the concept of cross-linguistic possession and linguistic possession in Polish discourse. I have delivered professional workshops and lectures in many countries including Australia, Indonesia, Japan, Korea, the Philippines, China, Poland, the UK and Germany.

My current research focuses on internationalisation of education, online education and flexible mode of content delivery and language teacher education. I am interested in how the collaboration of these fields can contribute to improving students’ experience.  I am investigating various dimensions of global education from the students’ perspective such as student educational experiences in culturally and linguistically diverse university cohorts and the changing roles of educators and educational institutions. The aim of this research is to improve the educational experience of the university community through innovative practices including technology enhanced learning and intercultural teaching and learning. I feel, therefore, very passionate about online education and the ways technology increasingly allows us to have the face to face experience in virtual classrooms.

As a language teacher educator, my interests also focus on addressing the needs of language learners and teachers in broad diverse educational contexts. I collaborate with international organisations and universities in Asia and Europe.
