Leadership and governance

Our governance at a glance

Bond University was granted university status by the Bond University Act 1987 prior to welcoming its first cohort of students in 1989. As a not-for-profit university, all revenue is invested into creating a standout student experience.

The University is wholly owned and operated by Bond University Limited (BUL), a public company limited by guarantee.

In place of ‘shareholders’, the University has ‘members’ who are drawn from the University’s key stakeholder groups including:

  • Students
  • Alumni
  • Staff
  • The community

The principal role of the members is to elect the councillors of the University who serve as the Board of Directors of Bond University Limited.

The Chancellor serves as the Chair of the Board while the Vice Chancellor serves as the Chief Executive of the University directly accountable to the Board of Directors known as the University Council

The peak academic body of the University is the Academic Senate, which serves as an advisory body to the Vice Chancellor on matters relating to the academic activities of the University.

The overall management of the University is steered by the University Management Committee, chaired by the Vice Chancellor.

“Our focus is on students and the quality of their learning, overall experience, and graduate outcomes. Our students come first.”

Professor Tim Brailsford, Vice Chancellor and President
