Society & Design facilities

Designed to help you learn differently

Our Faculty of Society & Design (FSD) encapsulates everything from communication to construction, so it’s no wonder that we have curated an eclectic collection of buildings and learning facilities that support students across each of these programs. You could say we really have it all!

Our newest learning and teaching facility, the Society & Design Precinct, provides a sustainable home for classes and small-group learning. The distinctive and purpose-built Abedian School of Architecture Building is equipped with individual workspaces for each student, and a digital fabrication and robotics laboratory. Our specialised film and television studios are fitted with Hollywood-standard equipment, and all students have access to an extensive equipment loan store to support their studies. Whatever you study, and whatever your aspirations are, you’ll have a full suite of unrivalled facilities at your fingertips throughout your time at Bond – discover them now.

Society & Design precinct

The Society & Design precinct is a new facility pioneering eco-friendly design and a collaborative, flexible approach to learning. With unique spaces that can be arranged to suit each individual class’s needs, this building is adaptable, perhaps harking back to its origins – many of the spaces, including the indoor-outdoor space, were constructed using recycled materials! There are places to spend time with friends, study together, eat lunch and more, as well as classrooms and computer labs all outfitted with the latest audio-visual technologies.

Architecture facilities

Abedian School of Architecture building

Our Abedian School of Architecture building provides architecture students with a creative place to learn. Students gain an exceptional learning experience through the collaborative design studio environment facilitated by the building's design, as well as innovative workshop and other facilities. Designed by globally-recognised and renowned architects Sir Peter Cook and Gavin Robotham, its construction was made possible with generous donations from patron Dr Soheil Abedian, Sunland Group.

FSD Fabrication Laboratory (FabLab)

Located within the Abedian School of Architecture building, the Fabrication Lab – also known as the FabLab – is a fully-equipped machine shop that offers power tools, hand tools and wood processing machinery to students within the architecture and built environment disciplines. Designed with a strong focus on digital technology, the workshop and assembly space facilitates both independent and collaborative work and are continually upgraded with new machinery to keep up with industry trends.

Robotics Laboratory (RobotLab)

Adjacent to the FabLab is the Robotics Laboratory (RobotLab), housing three ABB industrial robot arms that can also be used for fabrication projects. The smaller class sizes mean that students have access to one-on-one training and support and consequently, become competent very quickly.
