Vote for Australia’s top student filmmaker

The divergent paths of identical twins confronted with domestic violence and an eerie thriller set in the country are among the entries in Australia's top competition for high school filmmakers.

The 2021 Bond University Film and Television Awards -- BUFTA – accepts short films in seven categories, with the major prize being a full scholarship to study film and television at the Gold Coast university.

To Be or Not To Be by New South Wales’ Jake Frazer is a story that explores the nature of identical twins – and how their lives’ are thrown in opposite directions after suffering domestic abuse.

Another film The Tea Sommelier by Western Australia’s Lily Boisvert is a drama that conveys an unnerving relationship between a little girl and her nan on a rural property.

Both films make extensive use of natural sound and close-up cinematography which is a feature of several entries this year.

There were more than 160 entries across seven categories including animation, art film, comedy, documentary, drama, experimental and music video.

BUFTA was first held in 1996 and previous winners include The Bureau of Magical Things actor Elizabeth Cullen and Matthew Thorne, who has forged an international career in film including working alongside Ridley Scott on Alien: Covenant.

BUFTA winners will be announced on November 20.

The public are encouraged to support the young filmmakers, view the films, and vote for the Red Bull People’s Choice Award by visiting the BUFTA website.
