Lachlan graduates Bond with interest

Lachlan Reberger is the face of the new workforce.

The 21-year-old graduated from Bond University last week and has barely even met his ANZ work colleagues.

After finishing his Actuarial Science degree, the Vice-Chancellor’s Elite Scholarship student landed a role at ANZ but was there only a month before COVID-19 forced staff to work from home.

“I’m looking forward to getting back in the office and I can’t wait to get back and meet my team in person instead of all these online conversations,” Mr Reberger said.

“Now I’m doing full-time work, reality has hit that I’ve finished university.

“Mum was really excited to come and watch me graduate.”

Mr Reberger, who opens the bowling for Runaway Bay, said Bond prepared him for the rapid workforce changes wrought by the pandemic.

“It’s been a challenge working from home,” he said.

“When you are put into an environment you haven’t been in before, it’s hard, because there is lots to learn but you aren’t getting the hands-on experience you normally would face-to
face.

“ANZ has been a really good experience so far though.

“I was doing small business loans and now I’m moving into the asset finance team, doing loans for cars, equipment, trucks, jets and helicopters.

“I didn’t realise until I talked to people at ANZ in the interview, but they were looking for different sales experience.

“I got that through a Bond internship at Sunland Group in the sales team which gave me commercial sales experience and helped get the job at ANZ.”

Bond University held graduation ceremonies last week, adhering to strict social distancing measures.
