Professor Tammy Hoffmann of Bond University’s Institute for Evidence-Based Healthcare (IEBH) has been elected to the Australian Academy of Health and Medical Sciences (AAHMS) as a result of her outstanding achievement and exceptional contribution to Australia’s health and medical research landscape.
The Australian Academy of Health and Medical Sciences is the impartial, authoritative, cross-sector voice of health and medical science in Australia. Their Fellows, of whom there are fewer than 400 nationwide, are elected by their peers and drawn from universities, medical research institutes, health services, industry, charities and the public service.
It was Professor Hoffmann’s extensive experience and leadership in her specialist fields of evidence-based healthcare, evidence use and translation, and evidence-informed health decisions that brought her to the attention of the Academy.
Executive Dean of Bond University’s Faculty of Health and Medical Sciences, Professor Nick Zwar, said Professor Hoffmann’s election was thoroughly well-deserved.
“On behalf of the Bond University health and medical community, I warmly congratulate Tammy on her election to the Australian Academy of Health and Medical Sciences, alongside some of the country’s most highly-respected health and medicine experts, including Nobel Prize Laureates,” Professor Zwar said.
“Tammy has an excellent reputation, nationally and internationally, with her peers and the sector and has collaborated with and advised national, state, and international health organisations and government departments on evidence-based practice.
“She is fully-committed to driving sustained improvement in the Australian and global health sector, and will no doubt prove a valuable addition to the Academy’s Fellowship.”
Professor Hoffmann said she was very proud to be elected to the Academy and hoped it would enable her to extend the reach, and impact, of her research.
“This Fellowship will allow me to contribute more to the sector by providing independent industry commentary and advice and continuing to translate evidence-based research and its benefits for the health sector, patients and the public,” she said.
“I also look forward to the opportunity to nurture and inspire Australia’s future research leaders.”
Professor Hoffmann is the third member of Bond’s Institute for Evidence-Based Healthcare to be appointed a Fellow of the AAHMS. She joins existing Fellows Professor Paul Glasziou and Professor Chris Del Mar.
