Bond rugby pathway program achieving premier results

A Pathway program created three years ago is paying dividends for Bond University Rugby, with the Colts 2 team set to play a Grand Final at Ballymore on Saturday.

The Bond Pathway to Premier program is open to all kids on the Gold Coast, and it is aimed at bridging the gap between juniors and the senior elite level.

The desire to strengthen rugby on the Gold coast has seen 18 local juniors take the field in QRU Premier Colts competition in 2019.

Bond will take on Souths on Saturday and are on the verge of claiming their first premiership after losing the decider last season.

“Bond started a pathway program three years ago and it is all about improving the standard of rugby on the Gold Coast,” Bond’s head of Colts program, Brenden Jones said.

“This group has stayed together for a few years now and there are quality players here.

“The pathway program is about developing them on and off the field, we want them to grow as young men.”

Bond will take on Souths in the Grand Final, a team they led by 20 points twice in the Major semi-final before being beaten after the siren two weeks ago.
