Order and Disorder: Bond University conference leads to an international book publication

A new book exploring global challenges across law, international relations, trade and finance has been co-authored by 17 academics from countries, including Australia, Nepal and Iran. Ten of the authors are from Bond University.

The book entitled ‘Global Governance and Regulation: Order and Disorder in the 21st Century’, was published earlier this year by global publisher Routledge and was co-edited by Bond University Faculty of Law Associate Professor Dr Danielle Ireland-Piper and Queensland University of Technology Associate Professor Leon Wolff.

The impetus for the book came from an interdisciplinary conference held at Bond University in 2015, which was one of a number of interdisciplinary events organised by Bond’s Global and Comparative Law and Policy Network, previously known as the Transnational, International and Comparative Law and Policy Network.

The conference brought together Australian and international law and policy experts to investigate international, transnational and comparative concerns such as global financial stability, cross-border transactions, national security, war and armed conflict, statelessness, human rights, and transnational crimes such as terrorism.

Dr Ireland-Piper, who is also a Co-Director of the Global and Comparative Law and Policy Network, explains the value of interdisciplinary approaches to governance and regulation in the 21st century.

“Interdisciplinary research work is important because human communities do not exist in silos and global challenges require multifaceted solutions,” she said.

“In what is an increasingly interconnected world, we are pleased to make this contribution to international debate on a number of critical issues.”

Other Bond University authors included Professor Jonathan Crowe, Assistant Professors Victoria Baumfield, Louise Parsons, Jodie O'Leary, Narelle Bedford, Dr Umair Ghori, and Canadian Law Program Director Lisa Bonin from the Faculty of Law, as well as Honorary Research Fellow Dr Maziar Falarti from the Faculty of Society and Design, and HDR Candidate and Adjunct Tutor Syed Ali Abbas from Bond Business School.

Bond University and Deputy Vice Chancellor (Academic) Professor Keitha Dunstan attended a morning tea hosted by the Faculty of Law in May to celebrate the research.
